Hi,

Welcome to JavaRanch!

First, a bit of business: you may not have read our naming policy on the way in. It requires that you use a full, real (sounding) first and last name for your display name. Joke names and "handles" aren't acceptable here. You can change your display name here. Thanks!

Second: we've got a whole forum devoted to IDEs. I'll move this thread over there for you.

You are kidding right? JCreator is good, but it is an advanced editor at best. In no way does it even come close to VS.NET.

I'll make this short, simple, and sweet. This particular discussion has occured many many times in this forum. Here are the most popular in no particular order

IDEA
Netbeans
Eclipse
JBuilder
WSAD
JCreator
JPad
JEdit
TextPad
JDeveloper

I might be missing a few but that pretty much covers it. I don't have time to provide links for all of them but I've heard google.com is a pretty good search engine.

Thanks to all for your input. Please let me know your likes and dislikes.

Mr. Bolinger thank your for your list, but the nature of my question is to gain an opinion from the other members.

1. Your name still does not comply with the Naming Policy.
2. While I am sure that many people will probably respond, this question has been asked many many MANY times. And it would be benificial to you to search this forum. You'll find your answers a lot quicker than waiting for people to reply with opinions they've probably already stated before.

My deepest apologies!

You would think that since today is Friday you would have a better outlook on the day that is ahead of you.

Forgive me for posting a redundant topic, but based on the number of posts I have made 3, and 2 of them to you, I am still navigating your forum. Do note that I got transferred into your forum.

You know that there is a nicer way to communicate.

A class in creative writing or therapy may help also.

Case and point: "We have closed your thread due to numerous topics already posted on this topic. Here may be a thread that may be of interest to you: Thread-Here."

Using VI, textpad, notepad, etc is like using a shovel to dig the hole for your inground pool. IMHO, Eclipse or WSAD (Eclipse core) are the best IDE's out there. Especially when it comes to RAD (ironically next version of WSAD).

"Grape Wheel",
We are please to have you with us here in the IDEs forum. Note that we require proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Also it is good to spell out "you" to make posts more readable to those with English as a second language or using text readers.

Thanks,
Jeanne

simply I use netbeans.
I tried eclipse and jbuilder.
Especially eclipse is widely used in this forum. However i think it is
not for graphical aplications. It has a plagin for this but it is not very succesfull.

I think netbeans is ideal if you are not planning to write huge applications.

i guess you'r quite quite wrong here, because eclipse has SWT and has also ve (visual editor) to work with swing;

i'm no pro but sure eclipse performs ok with graphical apps

Poorly designed, poorly performing, etc.
Originally meant a car ready for the scrapheap, also used for other things that should be resigned to the trash

hehe. I have used VE and indeed found it to be slow and cumbersome to use so my opinion is based on personal experience

For GUI building using a drag and hope editor, JBuilder is #1, Netbeans a good runnerup.
For handcoding, JBuilder is #1, Eclipse a good runnerup, and Netbeans a distant 3rd.

As I've not use IDEA I can't tell you about that (but it doesn't have a visual editor I believe).

It does these days. It was introduced in version 4.5 I believe. I've used it a little; wasn't too impressed, but then I've never liked visual GUI builders.

I rate IntelliJ Idea NO 1.
It comes as a real help to anybody starting his java stint.
anyone who knows C and not java can code using this ide.
It really makes coding a better experience.
I can not even think of coding using textpad or editplus.
VI is distinct possibility.

The first IDE I used was JBuilder, I liked it a lot. Then my company got cash-strapped, so we were sort of directed to use NetBeans. However, my then PC was really underpowered and short of RAM, and struggled to run NetBeans, which was a bit of a memory hog. (This was about two years ago.) I switched to eclipse which ran better, and I've stayed with it.

I think that NetBeans is still the sort of official IDE for us to use, but an awful lot of guys in my department are using eclipse.

Actually, I was wondering if anyone out there is subject to any company policy on the IDE which they should be using.
