IDE and debugging

I have never used an IDE for debugging, in particular, following a variable through the code. Currently, I am using WSAD and need to know how to do this. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Per Bear's note in your other thread, proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Note that some people including myself will not answer your question until you fix the display name.

Go to Debug Perspective, there is a view Variables, or just right click on variable and choose Watch.

Thanks for updating your display name.

In addition to watching variables, you can set breakpoints. Once you are at a breakpoint, you can step into (drill down into a method), step over (go to the next statement), run to return (the end of the method) or run to the next breakpoint.

Hi! Actually, can you be a little more specific on the "watch variable" suggestion you gave me. I can't seem to find it.

This article includes screenshots of many Eclipse debugging features.

For "watch", you first need to set a breakpoint. Then you can right click the variable to "watch" it as it changes values.

I vaguely remember that you can set a breakpoint on when a variable changes. I'm not positive if this was Eclipse or another tool though. Maybe someone could confirm?

Hi,

In my eclipse window, under Run, the options for watch, inspect, display, execute, etc are disabled
I am able to set the breakpoint, and when I run the code it stops there, but beyond that I am not able to do anything.
Can someone pls help...
