Is there an easy java debugger to use. I'm currently compiling my code at a command prompt. I need to watch how my variables are getting updated to figure out my logic error.

Joanna,
Welcome to JavaRanch!

A Java debugger comes with any IDE. Common free IDEs are Eclipse and NetBeans.

If this is a really simple program, it is going to be faster to add some System.out.println(myVariable); statements than download and setup an IDE.

And if you're looking for something less than a full-blown IDE, have a look at JSwat, which is a very nice standalone debugger.

You could also use JDB, which comes with the Sun JDK. Here's a link to show you how to use it. I think it would meet your needs.

Lanny,
do you call JDB a "easy java debugger to use" ?

Not really, but it sounded like JDB would suffice for what this person needed. Simple traces, variable values, etc...
