We're developing J2EE apps, web services, etc. using IBM WSAD/RAD. This IDE builds an EAR file with a couple of clicks. What are the benefits of using ANT to generate the EAR file instead of the IDE?

Well, the advantage of having an Ant script is that you can do builds without an IDE - or even a GUI.

Also, sometimes the build gets a little more complicated and it's easier to cook up an Ant script than to figure out a bunch of custom builders to plug into the project.
