My company has just created a new alliance with a major medical firm and a physician from Centura. The company has a major customer commitment and through the alliance has a national sales team which will sell the completed product. The alliance partner is a long-term customer of ours who has built the company to more than $40 MM in annual revenues operating in the medical services arena over the last ten years.

The project that is designed is 100% a web portal. The goal of the system is to aid patients in critical care, eliminate staff processes from the care cycle and protect hospitals' down-stream revenue. The current version of the software is written in Cold Fusion. This software must be re-created in Java and extended to meet the new requirements. At the core of the software will be a status engine. The engine will invoke the appropriate rules (comparatives) and actions (functions based on comparatives) to automate work processes. Other aspects of the solution include a parsing engine to get data from external systems and to feed data into those systems. There are also some tie ins to medical management software systems though an HL7 interface (documentation will be provided). Again, the client side is completely web-based. The current database is MS SQL.

This current team will be not more than three developers. First release is due within three months from project start. This is a long-term position but we will consider contract work. Additional phases have been identified and will commence after the first iteration is completed. First revenue will be achieved with the first release after having already contracted the project. Target customers are large medical organizations. First customer is a large medical imaging firm. Details are available after NDA and voice discussions are had.

The tasks that will be asked of you and skills you should have include:
Identifying and implementing all design elements
Developing software
Creating a pleasing interface through JSP or HTML
Understanding of workflow
Understanding of Document Management (EDMS) -- such as image servers
Ability to work with native interfaces
Strong development practices including COMMENTING YOUR CODE in a logical manner
Possibly: managing a development team
