hai ,
i want to check whether the modem is working or not.
i use java with linux.
i send a string "AT" to /dev/modem
it responds with OK.
after that i send "ATDT,<phno>"
this works fine for sometimes
but othertime , i am not able to dial out.
help me.

In general sending "AT" and checking to see if you get an "OK" is the most common way to test if your modem is working. What sort of other test are you looking for?

hi,
I am testing whether the modem is working by sending AT
and then i try to send the dial string
that is ATDT,5436789
this works fine for sometime.
but on the other time
i am not able to open the file
/dev/modem even i run as root
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
