Hi
I have a 20GB harddisk and it is partitioned into four 5GB drives. Now I am trying to install Red Hat Linux 7.0. The problem is that all four of these drives have something on them. E and F have a recycle bin each, and F has a folder called ~mssetup.t. Can I use one of these to install Linux, or do I need to remove one of the partitions? Can I do it safely?
Thanks

Well what OS are you running right now? And why is there a recycle bin in 2 different partitions? Is there anything else on those partitions? From what you said, it looks like 2 partitions have only a recycle bin in them?

Doh!! I forgot to mention that I have Win98. My major question is whether I have to remove one of my empty partitions(with just a recycle bin), or can I install Linux on my empty drive?

Did you fix your problem yet? If not, your best bet is to delete an empty partition with either fdisk or the graphical tool in the RH install process. Don't worry about the recycle bins on the empty drives (unless you specifically used a utility to move the bin to a separate drive - if so, move it back first). They're meaningless, just a windows thing. If this is your first Linux install, you might just want to let RH automatically set up your empty partition when it asks.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
