A while back I indicated that I was unable to do any gui programming due to font not found problems. I was told to play around with the font utilities and that didn't seem to work either. For the past 3 months I've been doing all gui programming on my sisters windows computer. I've got to fix this problem though, as her computer isn't as available as it was before. So if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. When I try to program with awt or swing I get an empty frame with the following being generated repeatedly in my shell:
Font specified in font.properties not found [--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]
However, if I program and compile on the windows computer, and then run it on my computer, it appears, yet the same exception is being generated repeatedly in my shell.
If anyone has any idea to fix this problem, I would be so happy. I even reinstalled the jdk once, but the same problem arose. I'm running Redhat linux 7.0, with gnome. Thanks for any help.

I wonder whether it would make any difference if you tried a different window manager. Isn't gnome still beta or something?
Also, do you have the fonts being complained about on your linux box?
These are stabs in the dark since I don't use redhat and haven't used linux for some months. But I thought I'd suggest it anyway.

So, I started to play around with the font manager again. While I still get the same error on my shell, I am able to build gui's. I can live with that error, as long as everything else is working. If I try to load a gui designed with swing, I can view it in the appletviewer but not with my browser. I assume I need to update the Java plugin, right? Awt works fine on my browser. Thanks for your help.

I need to go wrestle with MySQL for the rest of the day. Somehow after installing I locked myself out of the program. Root doesn't have access. I'm an idiot, I know.
