Hello there,

I am facing problems starting Postgres in Linux 6.2
When I start the postmaster it asks for the folder with the database and to set it using postmaster -D option. And when I set start using the option it says "/mydirectory/templste/pg_class" file not found in the path.

I think I should set the PGDATA variable. Please correct me I am not correct and what actually should be done.

Thanks in advance

Just setting the PGDATA to some arbitrary dirrectory will give you the same error when you try to start the postmaster.
I believe you need to set it (or use the -D option) to a suitable postgres data directory.
There should be a directory in the Postgres installation called data, that will work.
