Dial UP with Linux

I wonder if there is any ISP that is supporting standard Dial Up Access anymore. I am trying to get on the web with my Linux System, but none of my current ISP's will take a dial up connection that is not coming from their software ( AOL,MSN,NETZERO).
I tried it in windows and it the same situation. Does anyone know a provider that is supporting basic Dial Up? or is there a workaround to this problem?

We'll need to know where you are located. Certinaly here in the UK there are loads of dial-up providers which will accept straightforward PPP connections, and I'm sure the same will be true where you are.

MSN does. There is just a trick. When you set up your username it is not just your username. You have to specify MSN/username in that text field. Then your password is the same. I am dialing into MSN through my Linux box just fine. Hope that helps.

Earthlink (I had them in the past) was the same way - username specified as ELN/username. You probably also need to get the IP addresses of their name servers, and put them on /etc/resolv.conf.
Frankly, if your providor does not provide specific instructions for connecting with Linux, then they are not really providing, are they?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the wonderful tips.
I tried the MSN/username technique with my msn. I get authenticated, but I am disconnected just after a few secs, with a message that says " Can not find link to MSN".... That is both in windows and Linux. The liunx message is different though...but I do get authenticated....
Anybody knows what's going on here? Help me guys, I need to get online with my Linux ...

?
And in Windows, in your TCP/IP setup (where exactly depends on which Windows version - Bill likes to make it a moving target) - what are you saying about DNS server? Automatic or manual with IP addresses entered?

Now I finally got a dial up account with earthlink which works with basic windows Dial Up. But I still can not connect from Linux. I wonder what else I need to do, maybe I am doing something wrong, being a novice in this field.
I used the Internet connection wizard in xwindows for my account setup, and I am using the RH dialer for dialing.....
so I honestly dont know anything about the /etc/resolv.conf file.... But I'll go look now and post what I find in there...

I've been connecting to Earthlink from Linux, using "[email protected]" as the login. That should do it.

Can someone tell me which modems work well with Linux?
I currently have only winmodem on my machine. I contacted some vendors in my area (BestBuy, Circuit City, SamsClub..) None of them seem to have modems that work with Linux.
They do have external modems. Does every external modem work with Linux?

Gregg is correct,
MSN/username is working really good, even I let the system idel for 3 hours...it is not disconnected.
