Unix's urandom Device

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had anything on this device? It was pointed out to me after using Perl's srand() and rand() functions that exists this device. I was wondering if anyone first could tell me what the function accepts as parameters and also what the function uses as a "parameter" to initialize the function itself. Thanks in advance for any help.

I was misinformed earlier when I thought it was Unix, I believe it is actually Linux. But does anyone still know anything about this?

Hav you got a Linux system available on which you can do "man urandom"? I just did and it's interesting reading. It tries really hard to be environmentally random rather than pseudorandom, so the usual ideas of seeding and so on are not really applicable.
If youhaven't got Linux access, the manual pages are usually on the web. Here's one at Red Hat for dev/random and /dev/urandom.
I'm sure glad that he's gone. Now I can read this tiny ad in peace!
