principally there is no problem in running any java tool on a linux
distribution. You should only be aware to install the same JDK everywhere
(programm once run anywhere). Then it will work.
You only can run into trouble when you use rpm's cause they can be different. But the jdk you can get for each distibution and the rest i
normally prefer tar.gz archives.

For me JDeveloper 9 (Oracle) with CVS works well with both Mandrake 9.1 and Win2K.

I am running eclipse (with ant, JUnit, xdoclet etc.), JBoss with Tomcat, MySQL and J2SDK 1.4.2 on Mandrake 9.1. I was running the same set of tools on Redhat 9.0. I do not think linux distro makes any difference here except for the fact that different distros come with different packages and if you did not install correct set of packages while installing your distro you could run in trouble. for example, I cannot install adobe acrobat reader because I did not include the package containing ed command when I installed my distro. If something like this happens to you, you can always install additional packages from your linux CD later.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
