forgot Linux root password

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi, could anyone help me out: I forgot root password (RedHat 8.0). I checked RedHat FAQ, followed its tip to use "linux single" as user name and "passwd root" as password, still not work.
can any one give any tips? Thanks
Sam

Don't use "linux single" as the user name; use it as the boot command line.
Type it at the LILO: prompt.
Otherwise, you could boot from the RedHat install CD, tell it you want to do some system recovery, let it boot you into single-user mode, mount hda, then edit the password file.
