Hi Jim, Hi everybody
Ive just saw this new web site called DelhiJava www.delhijava.com, this is a new Java comunity whose launch is schedule by june 1st.
I enter to the forums section and what I saw createme alot of confusion...
Thats a Moose Saloon copy, ( well thay have a Duke waiter, instead of the moose head, and the color is green not brown ), even the forums names are the same.
Is this new site related to javaranch in anyhow ?
Does Javaranch own this site?
Do you have a "forum provider" in common??
Its funny to see almost the same content in two diferents web sites, I hope this would have a logical explanation.
By the way, recive my congratulations by having such excellent source of java information in here, I've learned a los reading and posting in this forums, ( even write in english, not very well tough ),
Well have a nice week end..
Regards Zkr ryz !!!

I don't think Delhi java is anyway related to us. I think they are using same old cheap tactic of Getting popularity by copying others. But , one thing is sure . Quality always wins , under any circumstances.
I agree with you that They have exactly copied the interface & other ideas like bunkhouse , which are copyright of Javaranch. I think They can be in Deep Trouble for voilating copyrights.

I thnik Paul Wheaton , The owner of Javaranch along with other javaranchers who come here , including you & me won't like these cheap copy cats. Isn't it.
So , I think Appropriate actions will be taken. Javaranch is the only official site. I think We don't have any branches ( This is not a bank to have branch ). We have built this site with a lot of hard work of many people including dedicated javaranch lovers who make this site successful.
So , each one of us must take actions against such copycats in future.

Shailesh.

Of course there is a logical explanation. The people at DelhiJava are too stupid to come up with original content so they steal it from others. Everyone, please write to the owners of DelhiJava at: Rajpal@delhijava.com and please tell them that stealing is a very bad thing to do.

I sent them this e-mail:
Subject: Stop Stealing Ideas from JavaRanch

Stop Stealing Ideas from JavaRanch! Don't you have any imagination?
What you have done essentially states that your site sucks.
Get on with the program.

Imitation is the sicerest form of flattery!
Of course, it is pretty rude to make such a blatant copy and I might have to do something about that. I encourage Java sites, but I hope that they will add to the overall Java community rather than just make a poor xerox copy of one site.

they are still there. If you are trying the link posted above by
Zkr Ryz , it won't work. as there is ",", after the URL given. So remove that comma & you will see copycats.

Unbelievable. They didn't even bother to change the FONTS on the stuff they swiped. Total lack of integrity.

While I agree that indeed imitiation is a form of flattery this particular brand annoys me. I just toom a look at the Bunkhouse section of their site and they have not only literally copied the HTML from the main Bunkhouse page but also the GIFS from the bunkhouse navigation menu, which I made Paul I do believe we have a copywrite message at the bottom of all of our pages so we could easily do something about this. The bunkhouse team work hard on those pages as do the reviewers ... also many other people work hard on other parts of this site. I'm really angry about this.
Like you Paul I'm not against other sites like this one appearing, but they could at least make an effort to use their imaginations and put their own personal stamp on it!
The good thing is .. their links seems all screwed to up me .. I'm not sure if that's because somebody has said something and they've responded already or they were always like that.

Have you read this: http://www.delhijava.com/FAQ.html#q5 ???

Good thiefs are more careful...
But that's nice that they liked Javaranch's offical policy on names so much, so they even provided a link to it!

Map this page is clearly an extract from a copy of the Saloon FAQ which again I partly wrote ... most of it is a standard FAQ that came with UBB but I added some stuff to it a few months back that was specific to Javaranch, and they've included some of that stuff. They aren't using UBB software anyway. Most of the time they've changed stuff but clearly missed that one.

Hey, I'm miffed. They deleted my question, "How can I post code excerpts so they don't look like crap?" I just wrote the question, not the answer, and I was joking at the time - but it made it into the FAQ anyway. And now they've deleted it. The nerve of some people!!!

Well looks like I can finally make it to bartender .
Serious though disgusting what he is doing. Best would be if all off us post the biggest rubbish he can imagine. We will keep him busy deleting/editing postings 24 hours a day.
And if he dares to grab the Cattle Drive I'm posonally flying his way and blowing up his server.

Rajpal, if you put a sign this is a mock site constructed for educational purpose, the content was borrowed from www.javaranch.com that would eliminate all problems.

Rajpal,
Whilst I appreciate that this was intended purely as a project to demonstrate what you can do, there are other ways of going about it. You can create a forum just like the Big Moose Saloon without it looking just like the Big Moose Saloon, you really just needed to be a bit more creative with your HTML modifications. Also, using images and other files from this site was not the way to go. You can just use them as inspiration for your own work. The best way to make your own site is to take a look at how others have done it and then start from scratch on your own ... all you had seemed to do was lift actual HTML and other files from our site and change the odd word or image.
I appreciate that many engineers don't consider themselves to be "aethetically creative" but I'm sure you could come up with a design that would be more suitable for your site.
The main reasons we were so angry were that it seemed that you were trying to create something that would be competitive to this site but would actually be made up of the result of all the hard work the people at this site had done. I appreciate that doing something like this on your own is difficult, so my advice would be to scale down your efforts. Start on something small first and gradually build up. As people come to visit your site you'll get to know them and they may help you out ... that's more or less how Javaranch started out. You must understand that everyone who works on this site does so freely in their spare time and as such we hold this creation very dearly in our hearts, it hurt to see it stolen like that.
Thanks for taking the site down for now. I'm sure it won't take too much work to create something more personal to you. Why not use some forum software such as Jive to start off your forum and get people visiting ... then as more people get involved they can help you out in designing your own software.

Thank you Rajpal. Looks like a good start.
PS: Don't let our momentary irritation stop you from coming back and working with US. Obviously you have a lot to offer the community and we would appreciate your participation.
At least we will recognize you when you post .
