installing linux
hmm hi i am having problems installing redhat linux 9 on
my systems running windows 98 could i get some help please???
p.s he new java desktop is similar to linux right?
We can't help unless you tell us what the "problems" are!
To answer your second question: in Linux, the GUI is separate from the OS, whereas in Windows they're one and the same. So there are many different graphical environments for Linux. The new "Java desktop" is one of those. I wasn't sure if you understood this, but you need to run the Java desktop on top of some other existing UNIX/Linux installation.

In fact, the Java Desktop System is a Linux distribution just like Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux, Debian Linux, etc. The Java Desktop System distribution just has more Java stuff bundled by default compared to the others. In fact, the desktop is in no way related to Java (it's the same GNOME as in other Linuxes...).

Initially, the Java Desktop System only supports the integrated Linux it ships with. According to the page I referred earlier, the Java Desktop System is due December 2003.

chinedu, can you give me abit more detail on the error?
Couple of things you can check:
1. make sure your xserver-xfree86 is installed
2. your .xinitrc file is setup propertly
