this is for newbies only.....newest newbies
guide to installing java from a binary on a lnux platform.I am a newbie and am posting it here so that no newbie has to :-) read it at places n ask
this one is not for those who want java plugin for there web-browser only.
download version 1.4 of Java from
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.html.
(If you want to be able to write your own Java programs that you can compile and run, then you must download the SDK (Software Developers Kit). If you just want to be able to run a Java program that has already been compiled, then you can get away with just downloading the JRE (Java Runtime Environment))
after u have the bin file u need to change the permissin lovel to execute the binary
chmod a+x <name of ur linux binary>
or,
chmod 755 <name of ur linux binary>
next go to the directory where u want to put the java files and type
./<name of ur binary>
(type realative path to ur binary if u want to put it some where else i.e. other than the directory u donwloaded it to)
u r almost done but u need to do one more thing
for bash user
open the file .bashrc (iam assuming you use bash for other shells u need to do the same) in an editor
and add last line
export PATH=/<PATH TO UR JAVA>/j2sdk1.4.2/bin:$PATH
(i had installed j2sdk1.4.2 n at hte location /home/phreak/
so i had added export PATH=/home/phreak/j2sdk1.4.2/bin:$PATH)
PS:close the terminal
