Has anyone experienced weird characters showing up in their Linux editor (specifically Xemacs) from a windows cut and paste operation?

Most often truly weird characters (in the octal 300's) are Microsoft "smart quote" characters, which aren't valid ASCII chars, and similar 'Softisms.
