What is the groups' opinion(s) on certifications such as the ones offered LPI? Just wondering if it would be worth my time.
thanks,

Software Engineer
For the purposes of this question forget that I am a software engineer. Just think of me as wanna be Linux sysadmin.

In all honesty, I don't understand why developers should try to get system admin certifications (since your title is software engineer). It's one thing to learn the system and program it, it's another to become an admin of a system. I'm pretty proficient and develope on *nix system, I certainly don't administrate it, even tho I ran linux at home.
As far as all the linux certifications goes, I think it entirely depends on your situation. Don't go for it if you wish to LEARN the system, but go for it because you need some official recognization.
Just my $0.02.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
