I would like to download the necessary files for tomcat 5, but when I look at the website it is not obvious to me what files I need. I am running Fedora Core (Linux) but obviously the tomcat files I need are not distro specific. can someone give me a pointer as to what files exactly I need to download for TOMCAT 5?
Herbert.

http://apache.mirror.digitalspace.net/jakarta/tomcat-5/v5.0.19/bin/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.19.tar.gz
The exe is, of course, useless for Linux. You could use the zip, but tar/gzip is more in the Unix/Linux line.
The other variants have to do with an external deployer and for running Tomcat embedded in some othe program (such as JOnAS or JBoss), I believe.
You might also want to google and see if anyone's done an RPM of Tomcat5. There was a very nice packaging done for Tomcat 4 by someone in France, but I'm not sure if it has been updated in a while. The RPM used softlinks to make Tomcat's config files appear in /etc/tomcat4, the log files in /var/log, added some init scripts and /bin commands and ohterwise made life quite enjoyable.
