I'm running a Swedish PC with Slackware 9.1 and most of the time KDE3.1.4. I can not find a way to get the JVM to accept input of 'foreign' characters from my keyboard. I have tried:
altering X11 config.
running Gnome - XFCE - Console only
java -Duser.encoding=8859_1
java -Duser.locale=sv_SE
My guess is that there is an environment variable missing for the JVM somehow, but which?
Any suggestions helpful.
sinc.

Try command "locale" and you'll see all the env variables that can be altered to your locale ie sv_SE. I'd suppose changin LANG and LC_MESSAGES will do the trick.
