Better processor for Linux.  RSS feed

Hi to all,

I don't know whether the question is relevant to this form. But still can any one tell me which is the better processor for running Linux on the laptop.

which one is better AMD 64bit or Xeon or any other you have in mind.

For Linux .. any processors are "better". You will realized Linux consumed less resources than Windows in general. I still have Red Hat 9 running on Celeron 666(Mem 384) and Mandrake 9 on PIII 750 (Mem 512) and both are more than enuf !!

What you mentioned there are more than you need Lucky you ..got to chose between AMD64 or Xeon .. drooling here ..

I'd worry less about the "better" CPU and more about compatible peripherals.

That's usually where you get into problems on laptops. They have too much proprietary hardware.

A good idea before buying a laptop for Linux is to pop a Knoppix CD into it and see if the network, video, and sound processors work properly.
