Hello,

Can anyone please tell me how to install and run java on NetBsd platform.

For all the wonderful things said about BSD, the one problem it offers Java is that Sun doesn't really bless it the way that they do Solaris, Windows and Linux. There are ports, I understand, but they may not always be up to date and vendor support is likely to be an issue.

Unless they're doing something really wierd, though, the usual method of installing a Java SDK or JRE is simply to untar (or unzip), set JAVA_HOME to point to the root of the extracted archive and add $JAVA_HOME/bin to the path.

thanks for this information. let me try this and see if this works. Actually I need to run an appropriate web server and application server too after installing JDK on NetBsd.

Until now I have done these on Windows/Unix only. So any tip/pointers/links to do this will be appreciated.
