"java -version "throws error in SunOS5.6
I installed jsdk 1.4.2_09 on SunOS5.6 box using the self-extracting script j2sdk-1_4_2_09-solaris-sparc.sh which I downloaded from Sun site.

I have installed all the required OS patches for Java 1.4 on my box.

But when I type "java -version" it throws the following error

testuser :-) ./java -version
dl failure on line 716Error: failed /usr/java1.4/j2sdk1.4.2_09/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: ./java: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/java1.4/j2sdk1.4.2_09/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so: symbol getloadavg: referenced symbol not found

Could someone please help me with a reason for this error and possible solution

Rgds
Anjana
The failed symbol reference suggests you are either missing a .so file or you have one that is not recent enough to support this version of the JVM.

I found this with a google search on 'getloadavg.'
