Guys,

Does this distribution plays MP3's and video files by itself or do I have to install any additional softwares for it to recognize mp3 formats??

Joe,

Imagining that I already have a Ubuntu version 7.04 on my system instead of fedora, can you please tell me how I can play mp3 files and mpeg formats on my system??? I don't have any internet connection. What all codec files that I need to download and what is the command that I need to execute in order for me to install those codecs. I tried looking it in goolge but I'm not pretty satisfied with all what I got as search results. I'm desperately in need of help. Please help me!

hey,

perhaps isn't enough ...

in the Installation Pragramm (Synothsis (?)) you can choose media and install a player (for example mmxm (?) ). The standard ubuntu player doesn't have mp3 codecs but in some other players the codec is integrated ...

movie

take "vlc" and to look dvd you have to install a lib (.deb) with the name css??dvd.deb (i don't know the name exactly, i am at work and i use ubuntu at home)

a hope thats a first step
greetings
mario

In your previous post I linked you to the Ubuntu documentation on playing restricted formats. That page and the links off it tell you exactly what you need to do.

Joe,

I visited the link that you gave in your post but to do it, do I need an internet connection? This is really killing me! Please help. I'm slowly getting fed up with Linux....

First, calm down.

Secondly, yes, you need an internet connection. Unless you are using the DVD version of Ubuntu you will need the internet to download and install packages either via apt-get or synaptic.

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty is a bit better than the link Joe posted because the ubuntu guide tells you exactly what commands you need to type in to install everything. For example, how to install multimedia codecs...

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras libxine-extracodecs gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-pitfdll

You can pretty much copy and paste that into a terminal as long as you have an internet connection and it will do the rest.

Gregg,

I purchased the Ubuntu distribution CD for money though it is available free for download. I have it in the form of a CD. Now, do I have to buy a DVD again?? I'm not planning to take an internet connection soon...

If you don't have an internet connection, you get what you get on the CD, nothing more. The DVD does contain additional packages that are also available online. I don't know how to be more clear.
