I have fedora linux installed in my pc and I tried to work with java by installing java6 but I was not able to perform the task so what should I do for working with java or to check whether jdk is installed properly.

I did a Google search for "fedora java" and the first hit is the Fedora Java FAQ. Have you looked at that document?
