deploying java application in linux

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
hi-
i made an swt application with eclipse, fatjar, hibernate, etc.
i am new to linux. do i need to concern myself with the
owner and user group when deploying it? what if the machine
i deploy it to doesnt have the same owner and user group as me?

if i use fatjar i dont have to change owner and permissions
for all the files in the fatjar do i?

i found a great tutorial on webstart and think i can set it up
no problem but am stuck on this piece of it. i already am launching
my app with java -jar demorun_fat.jar command and it uses hibernate
and apache derby.

i hate it when i get stuck like this. i could have got quite
a bit of other stuff done but was searching and i just cant find
any discussion of this type of question.

thanks for any help,
jim

Don't know. Are all those files pure Java, in which case they ought to work anywhere? Don't know whether you have to set ownership, maybe only

chmod a+x . . .

Have you tried that with several users?

We have a Linux forum, and you might have a better chance of answers there, so I shall move this thread.

That's my roommate. He's kinda weird, but he always pays his half of the rent. And he gave me this tiny ad:
