G'day all, I can buy a nice demo model 1 ghz p4 17" imac. How does this compare to performance on a wintel with java programming? I'm afraid I'm still better off buying a wintel, for price perfomance. Furthermore are there any ergonomic keyboards available for mac? Jeroen.
Yes, just about any USB keyboard you can find will work on a Mac. Same goes for mice. There have been numerous discussions all over the web comparing Wintel and Mac price per performance. My own research has found that for what you get they're pretty much on par (sometimes it seems skewed because Apple doesn't make low-end $400 Macs), but your own findings may differ. The bottom line for me is that since switching to a Mac and OS X, I spend all of my time getting things done rather than having to dicker with the OS constantly. bear
If your comparison is price to cpu speed, maybe the imac isn't the best choice. However, if your comparison is price to productivity or price to overall satisfaction, then the imac is a great deal. If you don't need the built in monitor, I'd recommend a dual G4 for about the same price. That would put you in a solid "pro" model instead of the consumer imac. (of course, the imac design is very very nice)
I agree. On a price/raw performance basis, then Wintel is the winner. The benefits of a Mac are ease of use, hardware that works and a nice stable UNIX operating system. You should certainly take these into account.
Just for the record, while I support anything that is not M$, I have absolutely no problems with Windows XP on any PC I run it on. And I have PC's that range from 500 Mhz up to 1.7 GHz. I would love to get a hold of a MAC, but I just can't spare the $$ right now. Heck, I can't even spare any for a PC.
Blood pressure normal? What do I change to get "magnificent"? Maybe this tiny ad?
