I got a Pro Speaker Breakout Cable by Griffin for Christmas. It is a very easy install on the speaker end. Just connect the four speaker wires to the snap in connector. But the computer side did not fit. The speaker port on the eMac looks like it takes a 1/4" diameter plug, but the cable connector is about 1/8" diameter.
Has anyone used this setup? Can I get a adapter from Radio Shack that will make the plug compatible?
Don't make the mistake that I did. The Griffin breakout speaker cable is just for the iMac which has an internal amplifier. For the eMac, I will need to buy an amplifier to drive the two Sony speakers (120Watts). I went to Radio Shack but their salesman was not much help. I found a SA-155 Integrated Stereo Mini Amplifier for $60 but they say that is not powerful enough.
I wonder is Apple has some hardware that they recommend.
I ended up buying a radio receiver with speaker ports. Griffin sent me a note later containing info on a Griffin amplifier call Power Wave for $99. I have not tried it, but here is the link if anyone is interested. PowerWave [ January 15, 2005: Message edited by: Sonny Pondrom ]
