It's sa-weet

It's faaast!

The display is awesome...

Using Adobe InDesign (my main weapon), which is using Rosetta, it seems to be slightly faster than Kathy's G5 iMac - on all the native stuff it screams!

Sweet!

Trying hard not to turn green...

I am green, there's no fighting it. And smiling for you too.

Enjoy!!

PS
Hey, what about that museum piece you're replacing? Seriously, I'm actually looking for a bottom and top case for a PB G4 400/500. (Had a little mishap a few weeks back. )

Hey Pauline -

I'm still using my 3 mhz machine - the MacBook is for HD movie editing and stuff

But we do have an old, busted powerbook... you want it's case?

Bert

p.s. When the new 'rumored' faster MacBooks come out in the summer I'll get this one!

Wow! That's really good to know.

How much RAM is in the MacBook Pro? And is this comparable to what's in Kathy's G5 iMac?

Geez, some people get all the fun jobs.

If it's the right one, I'm definitely interested. Only a G4 400 or 500 would work, though. There aren't a ton of them around, even on ebay. Not so many retrofreaks out there I guess, heh heh.

Yeeha! Me too. Heeheeheeeeheehee.

Hey Pauline,

I'm pretty sure our busted Powerbook G4 is an 800 mhz...

Oh well, thanks anyway Bert. Enjoy your new toy!

You actually aren't selling that are you? I'd love to put that in my collection.

Hey Bert, how are you experiencing the heat thing? Any scars on your thighs? Did you do the firmware upgrade? Any problems with the fan going on a lot more (and disrupting important calls on Skype )?

Hey Pauline -

It does seem to run a little hot, but we didn't get a unit out of the very first batch. So far not too bad, but most of the time when it's running it's sitting on a metal lap thingy that keeps it off the legs and helps disapate heat. We haven't done any upgrades or fixes - it's run very smoothly.

Wow - I gotta say that the new basic level Macbook is pretty sweet - again, I'm very impressed at it's speed, size, looks, and that it can do extented desktop on monitors up to the 23" cinema display.

Bert

p.s. We might be coming thru Switzerland in a few weeks - will you be around at the end of June / early July?

Hello Mac fans~

I am interested in knowing how those Java Dev stuffs could be done on a MacBook Pro (I am considering to get one!!!).

Like could we install and run eclipse WTP with Spring, weblogic 8.1, JBoss blah blah blah...etc

I am using windows PC now but I'd really love to switch to a Mac.

How are the application compatibility? for example, Firefox, MSN Messenger/Skype, RealPlayer, Nero Buring ROM, WinRAR, BTBitComet, blah blah blah~

Any feedback would be really appreciated!!!

Thank you all~

These things are highly project/tool-specific. For example, you can definitely install Eclipse, Eclipse WTP, Spring, Skype, Firefox and RealPlayer--there are Mac versions for these.

For "heavy" applications, though, you might want to check whether there's a "Universal version" of the application you're interested in--i.e. whether it's running natively on Intel processors or whether it's running on top of the Rosetta emulator.

Having said that, for most applications which don't offer a Mac version, there's some alternative with similar capabilities available.
