So here we are again, on the road, and Kathy's MacBook just kicks my old Powerbook's wireless ass!

I've been reading that the MacBook is probably the best of the portable Macs when it comes to wireless, so that just might be my next machine, but in the meantime, does anyone have any experience with the notion of any sort of gizmo that might make a Powerbook's wireless perform better? Like an add-on antenna or something?

spotty connections in Schenectedy,

Bert

I once saw a usb antena for wireless range increase it was three feet tall and I think like $100 or more... and the increase was I think 300Ft. not sure if that would increase speed though.
If you think this could help tell me and Ill find it (its in one of my Macworld magazines)

Hi Bert,

I use one of these USB wireless adapters, not to enhance the built-in wireless, but to have wireless at all on my pre-Airport PB. (I actually bought it on a trip to a little mountain town in Colorado a couple years back... )

It works fine when I need it. Can't imagine that it would be better than what you have with Airport, though the adapter does live outside the titanium encasing...

Hi Pauline -

Yeah, I have one of those - it works, but probably not quite as well as the airport card - are you up to the latest version of OS X ?

BB: are you up to the latest version of OS X ?

No, just to 10.3.9. Why?
