subnotebooks and aluminium iMacs

Marc might not be able to resist the new, rumored iMac - I'm wondering if anyone else has heard any new rumors about a subnotebook? A few weeks back Kathy read something about a subnotebook due out by the end of the year...I'm afraid resistance would be futile for me

I was hoping for something smaller than 13" - but there was one comment that indicated that the 13" could be formatted in a more "wide-screen" fashion, and I'd welcome that.

If it's not a tablet Kathy will be bummed, but for me this sounds great...

Now of course the next step (let's go ahead and get ahead of ourselves ), is to figure out how to keep two Macs comfortably "synched" - in other words how to keep emails synched as you go back and forth between machines...

About mail: I use Gmail as my main private mail account, so I can access my e-mail everywhere where there's a computer with an Internet connection.

yeah, I've been thinking about web-based email, it sounds convenient and for some reason I'm a bit resistant to it, I'll have to keep noodling on it

Hmmm... Me too.

I have a gmail account, but I really don't like it, so I avoid using it. Doesn't .mac provide web-based mail that emulates the Mail.app? Maybe that would be okay.

Yes, .mac mail can be accessed via the web mail client or by the Mail.app client via IMAP.

I've had yahoo mail for many years now. Initially it was "just a web mail" account, but has evolved to be the one I use the most. It's been reliable. I don't really like the new ajaxified version they're pushing, but so far I've been able to stay with their "classic" version.

Gmail doesn't do it for me either.

Some ISPs offer IMAP or web-based email too. I use Thunderbird with IMAP for an ISP account too.

I have three Macs and .Mac keeps them all in sync. Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and the iDisk are all automatically synchronised.

There are some bugs in the .Mac integration with Leopard at the moment but generally it is very good since they upgraded the standard storage to 10GB

Note: Still conflicting reports on whether the display will be 12" or 13.3".

In the article below, the sub-notebook unveiling now seems to be a given. The rumor is about the external optical drive.
