I'm thinking about producing a DVD. The first application that comes to mind is of course iDVD, but reading up on it I'm getting the impression that it's geared very much towards movies (naturally). But my project is more like a collection of slide shows, probably with recorded sounds, but involving no pre-made movies. So I'm wondering if there are other programs for producing DVDs that might be better suited for this. It doesn't have to be free, although -this being a personal project- I wouldn't want to spend hundreds of bucks.

Does anyone have any experiences or ideas?

Myself, I would put it together in iMovie HD, being sure to put in chapter markers, then burn it with iDVD. There may be better ways to do it, but that's what I would do.

iDVD can also easily create slideshows directly from any photos in your iPhoto library or elsewhere. Is there something special about these slideshows?

No, there's nothing special about the slideshows. I was thinking about adding voiceovers, as well as titles, to some of the images, though, and it seems that I'd need to use iMovie to do that. At least that's the impression I got from watching a few of the iLife tutorials.

Yes, to essentially make a "movie" out of the slideshow (titles, voiceovers and so on), you;d use iMovie. iDVD can handle simple slideshows set to music.

Thanks guys. Looks like iMovie is the way to go.
