Hello all,
If I create a file that I want users to be able to download from my web server, how do I create the link? When I tried it with a word doc or a .txt file it automatically opened the data in the browser as a page. Instead, I want the user to download it straight to their PC. Anyone know how to do this?

I think if you give your file an odd extension, the browser will prompt the user to open from the location or save to disk. I was able to get Netscape and IE to prompt for a download by giving a text file my intials as the extension: myFile.cub
Hope this helps.

Thanks Connie, that is basically what we ended up doing. Instead of using a straight Excel extension we created it as a .csv which the browser doesn't know what to do with so it automatically prompts for the download.
Does anyone know if I give a word file a weird extension, can Word still open it without changing the extension first?

You'll probably get the 'open with what...' dialogue box.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
