hi guys,
my nose is bleedin' trying to get a page to work in BOTH netscape and ie (netscape 4.76, ie 5.5).
it was all sing-song for IE and i just realised i haven't tested the pages on netscape. and sure enough, netscape mucked up all my codes.
THEN i went to stick this <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" topmargin="0" rightmargin="0">
into the html and now *IE* gets messed up.
this is making me a VERY ANGRY PERSON.
SOS!!!

I am going through the exact same issues. IE is very forging...Netscape is not at all. Check all your end tags, to make sure they match up. </TABLE>, </TR>, </TD>, etc. Also, textboxes a wider in netscape. These are some of the things we just have to live with...at leats with the current/older version of Netscape.

The main thing to watch for in Netscape is that ALL your </TD> are butted up against code or text. Like so:

not

The above will add spaces if your spacing is really tight.
Also make sure if you use CSS that you DON'T have a style set to TD because that'll fubar things too.
Do you have an example file that we can have a gander at?

I only use netscape to test pages. I much prefer IE. IE has its faults too though. one thing i find particularly annoying is it lets sites add themselves to your favorites and also lets them make themselves your home page
I heard that netscape6 fixed a lot of things but a lot of people still use 4.7

Pope,

I actually prefer Netscape, and test for both--even tho the office standard at my company is IE 5.0. IE forgives bad code--Netscape doesn't. So if you write good code, you should and can get your tables to work in both.
What layout problems EXACTLY are you having? Can you throw the page(s) up online, so we can take a look and see the problems? I'm sure between the lot of us, we can hammer out the cross-browser issues.

aryastark,
either that or use the UBB quote or code tags and post the code here. we could just copy and paste it into notepad and save it as a html file so we can see it. Although if the table has any images in it or anything it would be better to put it online somewhere and give a link to it. If you dont know the UBB tags you can learn them here: http://www.javaranch.com/ubb/ubbcode.html
I didnt notice at first but your name also does not comply with the Javaranch naming guidelines which can be found at http://www.javaranch.com/name.jsp
