I represent Pillar Technology Group. We are always looking for bright individuals who consider themselves to be innovators to join our team.
Pillar is an IT company that understands business, just as much as technology. We love technology and we enjoy a reputation as world-class technicians, but we also appreciate ITs higher calling solving business problems and delivering value as quickly as possible. This is exactly what weve been doing for the past 10 years, while scooping up the best and brightest minds in the industry along the way.
Our solutions put value before completeness. We call this
philosophy Speed to Value (S2V), and its basically a combination of superior business case management coupled with the highest quality, lowest cost, and fastest development process around. Our methodology stems from the best practices of Agile Methods/XP programming including, but not limited to automated regression
testing, test-driven development and refactoring.
Speed to Value Tech Lead Job Description: The tech lead on a Speed to Value project is probably the most challenging and most impactful role on the whole project. He or she works at the point where the business meets the technology and has responsibilities in both areas.
The tech lead typically has the deepest understanding on the development team of the goal the business is trying to accomplish with the project, and how the project accomplishes it. Is the business is trying to reduce cost, increase revenue, or enter new markets? The tech lead has to know.
He or she works with the business throughout the project to determine how to use technology to solve the business problem. Sometimes this involves inventing technical solutions and many times it involves helping the business make good trade-offs, spot opportunities, and avoid mistakes.
The tech lead might or might not act as the team architect. This depends on the particular tech lead and particular project. At a minimum, however, the tech lead has oversight of the major technical decisions because he or she is accountable for them.
Most importantly, the tech lead heads up the development team. He or she works with the developers to define and estimate tasks, assign tasks, monitor their completion, and troubleshoot issues along the way. A good tech lead will understand the strengths and weaknesses of individual team members and coordinate assignments to create as much team velocity as possible. The tech lead is also responsible for setting and maintaining the development teams standards and practices, particularly around testing, estimation, and continuous integration.
Tech leads write code themselves, but should also understand that helping the team be productive is more important than his or her personal development velocity. This is often a difficult adjustment, especially for a new tech lead, and is a continual balancing act for all tech leads. In the term tech lead, tech comes first, but in practice leadership comes first.
Additionally, the tech lead keeps the project manager informed of progress, and escalates problems when they arise, along with possible solutions. Together the project manager and tech lead form the nucleus of the project.
