Closing a popup window, when parent window is closed

hi all,
scenario is something like this, I've a button onclick of which a popup window is opened and also a second.jsp is opened.. now I want to check whether the popup window with the name "process" is opened or not, is it is opened then I have to close it.. can any body please help me...
b'cause it's b'coming a big issue....

I solved the problem, with the help of cookies...
actually th problem was a window was opening a popup window and also takes the user to the second.htm and onLoad of second.htm I want to close the popup window which first.htm opened..
do we have any other way of doing it...if yes then can u pls..
