Pop ups are normally not blocked by onclick events. They are blocked with onload and onunload. Build a test page and see what happens.

Thanks Eric.

My requirement is to open a new window when user closes the browser. I was calling window.open in the onbeforeunload event of body.

Well your requirement is not going to happen since a pop up blocker will blcok windows not opened by a user action.

Its a business requirement. If the user closes the browser, they want the user to be redirected to some other site. we dont have much time to think in some other possiblities. Can we do the same this b calling servlets or something?

Your page is not going to have any control over the user leaving the site. It really is a bad requirement since it is going against one of the ethics of web programmimng.

If it is in intranet site, have your networking people add your corporate site as a safe site for pop ups and you would have no issues.
