Middleware Engineer
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Walnut Creek, CA, Vancouver, BC, or Winnipeg, MB

The Information Technology Department, located in Walnut Creek, CA, Vancouver, BC, or Winnipeg, MB has an opening for a Middleware Engineer position.
Qualifications:
� 3-5 years experience with Websphere MQ Series and MetaStorm (formerly CommerceQuest) PM4DATA (formerly Data Integrator) in a large-scale corporate environment. Responsibilities must have included infrastructure design with high availability and DR considerations, as well as consulting for application design best practices
� Must possess very strong scripting skills including UNIX shell, Perl, and batch
� Candidate must have strong UNIX, mainframe, and Windows skills. Experience with Windows 2003 server, AIX, IBM z/OS, Solaris, and SUSE Linux is preferred.
� Candidate must have performed in an engineering and support role for a technical discipline at some point in their career.
� Should have at least 2 years of
Java development experience to the
J2EE standard using an enterprise application server, like WebSphere Application Server, BEA Weblogic,
Tomcat, or
JBoss.
� Prefer candidate to possess at least 2 years of hands-on experience with enterprise middleware products, like WebSphere Message Broker, Websphere Event Broker, and WBI Server Foundation. Additional experience in the technology lifecycle management, configuration, optimization, and tuning of these types of products is a plus.
� Experience with CICS, CTG, and IBM HATS is a plus
� An understanding of JMS, SOA, ESB, J2EE, web services, and XML concepts is a plus
� Experience with the Tandem OSS platform is a plus
� Knowledge of relational databases is a plus, including DB2, SQL Server, and Teradata
� Experience working with open source products in addition to commercial products is a plus
� A four year degree in a technical field is required; Computer Science or Engineering is preferred.
� Very strong interpersonal, communication, and team building skills are essential
� Candidate must work well in a fast-paced, changing environment and be able to manage multiple tasks, projects, and initiatives all with different priorities at the same time.
� Candidate must possess a genuine desire to provide superior customer service to our I/T customers
� Must demonstrate proven ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and drive issues to resolution, individually and when leading a group to reach a conclusion

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
� The engineer will work with application developers to optimize the use of data movement and integration middleware technologies within this organization. They will create infrastructure technology plans to support the ongoing improvement, optimization, and rationalization of middleware technologies that include high availability and DR scenarios.
� Develop and improve standards, guidelines, and procedures for the WebSphere MQ Series and PM4Data environments. Set strategy and lifecycle management for these technologies.
� Initiate and deliver R&D efforts to evaluate new releases to existing technology and alternatives that could provide enhanced capabilities and value.
� Work with application architects to ensure that new application designs fit into the middleware infrastructure and that operational controls are part of the initial design
� Install/Configure/Administer/Architect WebSphere MQ Series and PM4Data.
� Evaluate and recommend new middleware software for use at this Organization
� Provide last level problem resolution services for issues requiring a re-engineering of a managed product or platform
� Engineer BMC tools strategy to monitor supported products
