Good morning, David, and JavaRranchers,

The day's started in the UK, I'll be keeping an eye on the saloon today, and through the rest of this week.

Thanks for having us, I'll look forward to some interesting discussions.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello Mr Crane,
I do not intend to take part of this week's promotion,
but I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you that I (like many) enjoyed your book "Ajax In Action" a lot.

I hope that Bear was not to rough with you
I wish you good luck for your two new releases.

Hi Satou,

Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed AiA.

Writing two books at once has certainly felt a bit rough now and again, but Bear's been great to work with on both of them.

Cheers,

Dave

Since I'm not eligible for book promotions anyway, can I ask how the experience is working with sponges like Bear and Eric? Is there anywhere in either book that you can pinpoint your disappointment starting to show?

Seriously though, AJAX in Action was a wonderful book and happily addressed many of the criticisms I have had on JavaScript and JS related books in the past. I speak of it so highly I think someone has stolen it off me!

I hope the new addition is a match.

Hi David,

Thanks for your kind words.

Bear and Eric have both been terrific sponges to work with. They're extremely flexible under pressure, and can absorb an incredible amount of workload.

I hope that the new book proves to be a good match, shedding lots of light on the subject, and setting fire to our readers' imaginations.

I'll shut up now, before I embarrass myself with more bad puns

Dave

No fair! Dave gets a good 5 or 6 hour jump on getting to all the good questions!

It was the copy and tech editors who were rough on us! But that just means that the end product ended up being even better. We have the scars to prove it!

If by that you mean the no-nonsense approach that AIA took towards treating client-side Javascript with the same respect due server-side code, I think you would be pleased. Both Dave and I emphasize good patterns and coding practices and use object-oriented Javascript to good advantage.

This will be even more evident in Ajax in Practice (whose book promo will be held in this forum in just a couple of weeks).

We have the scars to prove it!

And I'm sure both copy and tech editors have some too
Good luck for your books.

Exactly. AIA treated Javascript as a tool for creating mature, enterprise solutions and including subjects like testing, best practices, patterns and the like distinguished it from books which approached AJAX or JS as a way of hacking some dynamic content on a site.

I'm pleased to hear the current offering follows this practice
