David,

Does this book come with a CD for the code examples?? Does the book clearly specify all the tools needed to work with AJAX and how to obtain them from the internet?? I have seen many books that promise this but when you go to the website to actually download the tool, the page is either not there or the tool might be outdated. So how well does AJAX in Practice fits this??

ALmost every book now a days does not have a CD. All of Mannings books have the source code in a zip file of their website.

I don't know much about Ajax. Does this book cater to people that are new to it, or does it expect prior knowledge?

No, the code will be down-loadable from the Manning web site.

Yes. A whole chapter is devoted to this.

I can assure you that the code will be available and that the tools used (Prototype, jQuery and so on) are not going away anytime soon.
