Oh...that explains it!
Though they are played aganist other countries, they are not considered to be One-Day Internationals!
Here is the list of One Day International matches.

They will, of course, but should they?

I don't think it is that big a deal. Out of four teams- Eng., Pak., WI, SA only two could have been in place of Kenya and Zimbabwe. Out of these four Pak, WI and Eng. and to some extent SA, played horribly. Did they really deserve to be in super six? I don't think so. Ken. and Zim. are in the super six not just because of their luck but because of the stupidity of these teams. Come on...a professional team like SA is doing wrong calculatations in a WC match  SriLanka beaten by Kenya??
Having said that, I think there definitely was a lot of scope for organizing WC better. At the least, teams shouldn't get full 4 points for beating non-test playing nations. And of course, at least 3-4 reserve days in total, not necessarily 1 reserve day for each match.

I think the best teams are winning atleast in fully played matches.( I mean not the ones which were abandoned or reduced to less overs).
Cricket has always been called a game of glorious uncertainity. You never know who the winner is till the last ball is bowled or last wicket is taken. Saying that WC is a sham becuase some teams could not make it is not my way of looking at it.
WestIndies are no more a world class team as it used to be in the 70s and 80's. Same applies to England...They havent won a match against Australia for a long time now. Coming to Pakistan, they are an uncertain team to start with. They can be exceptionally good or hopelessly bad as the recent concluded Australia Series shows. They were out with not even a 100 on scoreboard. South Africa is one team I would miss in the Super Sixes stage because I havent seen them playing worser cricket than they are playing now.
I certainly agree that rules need to be changed in the worldcup to give it a more balanced look like as someone suggested above
" Teams should be awarded may be half the points for beating a non test playing team".
I always welcome the rise of newer teams coming up like kenya did with a bit of luck and a lot of spirit. It augurs well for the game.
Long Live Cricket!!!

Oh well, I'm back to my SL / NZ final prediction again, sham or no sham.
Both have a bit of work to do though, unless the weather...

My guess (wish?) is that Australia will meet India in the finals.
If Australia doesn't lose any of the Super Six matches, it will have 16 consecutive wins in ODI when it reaches the final to meet India.
Remember, it was India who brought an end to Australia's record of 16 consecutive test victories.
Perfect conditions...isn't it?

India won the match.. But Kenya was ..
Kenya played really well. Their effort and courage are admirable. They did a very good job in their batting and their first 10-15 overs of bowling. Their fielding was almost as good as the top teams..
At the end of the day better team won.. Good to see that finally Ganguly is findind his form.. Yuvraj singh is becoming a dependable batsman too
Go India Go

Good luck. You might want to look at team performances though

Actually I'm hoping for an India - Australia
final.
Spoke to my brother-in-law the other day.
It seems that quite a lot of SA supporters "walked" over to Indian side now
But then SA supporters will be happy if anybody beats OZ.
Pesonally I don't really care who wins as long as it is a fantastic game. One that goes the full monty, the last over must decide the winner.

Yep, me too. I originally predicted a SL/NZ final, but SL seem to
have lost their initial impetus.
India may reach and even win the finals, but its a hard one to back.
A lot always rests on a couple of select players. (I could take a bollocking
for this on this forum ).
The Aussies and Kiwis are arguably the more consistent die-hard
sides. I enjoy the never-give-in attitude of the Aussies and the captaincy
and athleticism of the Kiwis. Funny how the Kiwis are never considered
as serious contenders in these international tournaments, and always
seen as a "dark horse". Their track record over the past few years should
have changed that opinion by now?
I missed the Kiwi innings of last night's game, but wasn't it a
pleasure to see Shane Bond's bowling performance yesterday? Good to
see that sort of talent and attitude coming through the ranks.
I just hope we're in for well contested final this time, in which
the weather has no say and both sides see their complete 50 overs out

Now, its got to be a Australia Vs India on March 23rd. And I totally lost on guessing the winner there. I am looking forward to a close, tense, last ball win - a perfect final for this tournament.

It seems to me that no one is expecting a Kenya - Srilanka final. Imagine if Kenya wins the wc!! That would be disappointing end indeed.

I got this in an email ..
I don't believe it, but makes some interesting reading...
Captain of winning teams
1979 - Captain - Clive Lloyd -Left Hander
1983 - Captain -Kapil Dev -Right Hander
1987 - Captain - Border -Left Hander
1992 - Captain -Imran Khan -Right Hander
1996 - Captain - Ranatunga -Left Hander
1999 - Captain - Steve Waugh -Right Hander
2003 -- Is he going to be a left hander again ?? ?
Is it Jayasurya or Fleming or Ganguly...? ??

Yet another reason to say CUP IS OURs
Now... statistics shows that after the league matches of this world
cup,
Australians have won 12 cosecutive matches.
+ 3 in super six and +1 in semis makes it 16. and they meet India in
Finals.

Remember ....... Its the same Ganguli and Boys who broke the sequence
of
16 consecutive test victories by aussies.....
So we will make it again World cup is ours.........

Can't believe yet???
i) West Indies were the champions in 1975 and 1979.
The difference between the years is 4.
(ii) Aussies were the champions in 1987 and 1999.
The difference between the years is 12.
By Arithmetic Progression the next number is of course 20. (4,
12,
20).
So the 2003 champions are none other than the champions in 1983.
Since
2003-1983=20.
YES it is INDIA.
INDIANS will B the CHAMPIONS.

Agreed. Sentimental favourites. It would be a great thing for the competition and cricket in general.
Gopi Balaji wrote a lot of stuff...

So you're saying Australia will win the cup if we lose to Kenya in the next match and break their own streak? I'll pass it on.

Ditto
So the 2003 champions are none other than the champions in 1983. Since 2003-1983=20.
Sorry, you need more than 2 numbers to prove a linear progression. My guess is polynomial, n=7.
Looks like there are a lot of Indians trying to prove that 16 games in a row doesn't mean anything
I'm loving the cricket though. All the best to everyone!
