Hi all,
I am from Taiwan. I have wait for about 2 weeks When I was notified that they stop the corporation with Prometic and I had to register the essay exam on Pearson VUE, and then I could not find any option about 310-027 or 1Z0-856, and then they told me to wait unitl 6/1. Today I am disappointed again; I feel so frustrated.

Not sure, but maybe registration is only possible when you have the voucher??!!
I sent my email to [email protected] last Friday. Didn't get any response yet.
If so, I will let you know...

5. You will not be eligible to register for the essay until you have submitted your assignment.

that means you have to submit your assignment by 1Z0-844, and then you can schedule an essay exam; Otherwise you will be blocked and get an alert. When you submit your assignment the old voucher for 310-252A can not be used, you need to request a new voucher for submition. So you still wait and wait........

It is looking like the new deadline is going to be 30 Sept. There is a post in the comments section from Brandye Barrington on the Oracle Certification blog at http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/entry/0582.

Some people already received an e-mail where the extended deadline is mentioned, see here.

If it's officially confirmed on Oracle's website, this sticky thread will be updated accordingly.

Hi Antonio,

Indeed, when you select Spain as country, this extra requirement is not mentioned. So I guess it could be something they forgot (because explanation are translated in Spanish, whereas the Belgium website has the standard English explanation), because as far as I know nothing is mentioned about this requirement being country-dependent. It's for everyone who wants to take OCMJD or OCMJEA.

The full text about this extra requirement can be found here.

Kind regards,
Roel

From the Oracle Certification Team, thanks to Dennis Grimbergen:

Oracle Certification Team wrote:Dear Dennis,

This email is to inform you that there has been a delay in grading assignments and essays. At this time, you may have been awaiting your results for more than four weeks. Please know that we are working diligently with the grading team to clear the backlog as quickly as possible. A bigger concern for you is probably the upcoming training requirement for your Java Master certification. We can assure you that should you receive a failing grade on your assignment, we will allow you time to resubmit and become certified should you pass, without completing the training requirement even if you receive your grade after the September 30 deadline. The exceptions outlined below will be allowed.

Candidate submits Assignment and Essay (and has completed any other required exams) by August 27, 2011 and receives a passing grade after September 30, 2011
This candidate will receive the certification without completing the training requirement

Candidate submits Assignment and Essay (and has completed any other required exams) by August 27, 2011 and receives a failing grade after September 30, 2011

This candidate will be given the opportunity to resubmit the assignment and essay within a prescribed time period. Should the candidate pass on the second attempt, he will receive the certification without completing the training requirement. Should he fail on the 2nd attempt, training will be required for certification based on subsequent attempts.

Thanks,
Oracle Certification Team

Hello, today i received the same email from Oracle.

Can somebody clarify this:

Exceptions:
1: Candidate submits Assignment and Essay (and has completed any other required exams) by August 27, 2011 and receives a passing grade after September 30, 2011
2: Candidate submits Assignment and Essay (and has completed any other required exams) by August 27, 2011 and receives a failing grade after September 30, 2011

Why 1 is an exception?

Does it mean that the non-exceptional case is recieve the grade before September 30?
Does it mean that if I submit after August 27 (but before deadline) and receive a passing grade after September 30, 2011 do i need to take the course?

Regards

Yes that ideally means someone has fulfilled the requirements before August 27th.

Does it mean that if I submit after August 27 (but before deadline) and receive a passing grade after September 30, 2011 do i need to take the course?

Most probably, Yes.

That's not true!

As far as I know if you complete both parts of the certification (submit assignment and take essay exam) before the deadline, you don't need to take the mandatory course (even when getting a passing grade). But if you fail, you'll have to resubmit and follow a mandatory course.

The statement does not talk about the deadline of the certification particular candidate received when he purchased it. What if someone purchase the exam on 25th, is he allowed to complete it without the mandatory course?, I don't think they will.
But it's best to get the exact details form Oracle, BTW.

That's simply because the statement has nothing to do with the general rule about the mandatory course requirement which can be easily found on Oracle's website. This rule is simply: if you complete the whole track of the certification (applies to developer and architect certification) before the deadline of October 1st, then you don't have to attend the mandatory course (regardless of when you started the certification path and regardless when your receive your PASS grade). If you fail the assignment and you have to resubmit after October 1st, you'll have to follow the mandatory course. That's all clearly explained in the FAQ you'll find on the link I provided.

Oracle said some time ago that when you submit before August 27, 2011 you would be guaranteed to have your grade in time, so you could resubmit (if you fail) before October 1st and avoid the mandatory course. Apparently Oracle can't meet their own deadline and that's why they are extending it with this e-mail.

In few countries the cost of Instructor led courses are just fraction of price quoted for UK or US. Trying to find out how will oracle will know that I have done the course?
Oracle is not asking about VUE ID at the time of booking he course on their website.

Hi,

I'm already a Sun Certified Java Developer and am planning to take on the exam for OCM Java Enterprise Architect in October 2011.
I'd read the announcement of the changes to Java Cert on Oracle website but still unclear about my situation.

Appreciate any help to clarify if I need to attend the mandatory training class before taking the exam.

If you are not submitting all parts of the OCMJEA certification before October 1st, you'll need to follow one of the mandatory courses.

Hi Roel,

Thanks for your help.
However, I still wonder if the fact that I have got certified as Sun Certified Java Developer would save me from attending the mandatory class for OCM Java Enterprise Architect certification.

Only having attended one of the courses on the mandatory courses list will save you from this requirement. Being a certified developer will not be enough.

What seems to me incongruous is what is needed as a classroom course like "Java Programming Language, Java SE 6" someone who is already certified as Java programmer SE 6

Could someone give me a solid argument on this issue?

I am working in USA where cost is $4000 & cost at my native India cost is Rs46700 (approx $1000).
even if I add return air ticket appox $1300, I could save approx $1700 & meet my parents also.

My question is if I take training in India, come back & appear for exam in USA, is that acceptable or for taking exam in USA one needs to take training in USA....
any news on such issue?

I don't think there is a requirement that you should follow the course in the country you take the exam, because you can also opt for an instructor-led online class. But if you want to know for sure, just ask Oracle (and let us know ).

Just click the course you want to follow to see its details and then you'll see fees for "Classroom Training", "Live Virtual Class" and "Self Study CD-ROM" (if applicable). Only first two are eligible for mandatory course requirement.

Well their new rules have made a great impovement to the Java community going by the number of new posts in this forum since the beginning of the month. I certainly learned a lot and improved my skills because I did the certification. If I had to pay for the course I doubt I would have done it and would not have learned a number of new skills and techniques. Going forward this will lower the Java skills out in the wild rather than improve them.

Has anyone subscribed the mandatory course for Oracle Java certifications? Any statistics yet? What are the chances that Oracle withdraws this rule? Please post your opinions.
Is there a forum where can we post our displeasure about this mandatory course? Thanks.

Is there any update on this. Java Ranch can conduct a poll and send it to Oracle. We can extensively use social networking and media to publicise the problem due to exponential cost increase.
