Fiserv Insurance Solutions provides enterprise software solutions for the commercial insurance industry. We are looking to hire a full time Lead Software Development Engineer to join our office located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Position Overview
Expected Contributions to the Role: The Lead Software Development Engineer position requires an accomplished professional who will develop solutions for business problems entailing either planning and developing a new system or creating ways to use the existing system more efficiently. This individual should have the ability to interact with customers and lead a team of others in the design, development, installation and maintenance of software products as well as perform any of these tasks themselves.
Expected Contributions to the Department and Company:
The Lead Software Development Engineer will work with clients and management using their strong analytical skills to solve diverse problems where limited precedents or guidelines may exist. They will need to be able to understand the business problem and the impact on the technical systems then translate the problem in technical terms to the technical experts. This individual will have the ability to lead a team of development personnel on various projects and direct their activities as well as have the ability to perform the activities themselves.
Major Areas of Accountability that Support Contributions
Responsibilities include the following: �Ability to lead or perform the tasks of design, coding, installing, and maintaining of software packages �Identifies and evaluates tailoring and implementation of vendor-supplied software packages �Evaluates the performance of installed software by utilizing available aids to monitor trends, loads and growth
patterns �Analyzes specifications for application enhancements �Leads or participates in a system walk-through of technical and operational features, functions and attributes of a new or existing software package �Trains internal and external clients on the use of software programs �Able to take responsibility for assigning software development personnel various projects and direct their activities. �Provides technical assistance to other internal departments regarding the use and problem resolution of software programs �Possesses an excellent knowledge of programming (i.e. program design, flowcharting, coding,
testing, debugging, etc) �Understands how the pieces of a program fit together for the purpose of meeting the requirements of an application �Excellent documentation skills of the design, coding, and maintenance �Excellent understanding of how critical project completion is to client satisfaction �Understands how the software being used relates to the hardware being used �Excellent communication skills to interact with external, as well as, internal clients for the purpose of data gathering and design initiation. At this level, the interaction may involve a great deal of writing. As a result, strong writing skills are required �Independent judgment is a must. �Assists less experienced software engineers �Completes other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Experience: �7 to 9 years of progressive IT experience that includes programming / systems analysis �Min. 5 years experience:
Java,
JSP, HTML, SQL/XML,
J2EE �Min. 2 years experience: Swing, Spring, Hibernate �PC .bat / .cmd a plus �Mainframe / UNIX / ZOS a plus �COBOL a plus
Education/Certifications/Training: B.S. in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
�Exposure to the P&C insurance / reinsurance industry a plus �Prior experience working for a software vendor is a plus �Prior experience working with an offshore team would be a plus
Travel Required and/or Other
Travel is possible, actual experience has been 25% or less.
