unordered list with hyphen

I was trying to create a unordered list with hyphen.like
- number 1 task
- number 2 task

and I tried with

  <ul style="list-style-type:hyphen" >
        <LI>number 1 task</LI>
        <LI>number 1 task</LI></ul>
 

could anyone help me on this?

"hyphen" does not seem to be a valid list-style-type value.

What you could try is using a pseudo element.

  ul {
    list-style-type: none;
  }
  li:before {
    content: " - ";
  }
</style>
 
...
 
<ul>
  <li>number 1 task</li>
  <li>number 2 task</li>
</ul>

you can try this too..
here even if the text is wrapped the text will be indented in the wrapped lines to look like a list..

   
<style>
	ul{
		list-style-image:none;
		list-style-position:outside;
		list-style-type:none;
		margin-left:0;
		padding-left:1em;
		text-indent:-1em;
	}
</style>

....

<ul>   
	<li> - number 1 task</li>   
	<li> - number 2 task</li>   
</ul>

oh i'm sorry. as a newcomer i don't know many of the conventions here.
i got to this page through a search in the google with the same question. after finding the solution i thought posting the solution here will help someone like me who reaches here through a search.
