please guide me how to highlight a row in a select box when a user take the mouse on a row in a select box. when the user takes the mouse away from the row it should un-highlight the row back to original color.

You can not do anything like that with the HTML Select element.

is there any solution, bcz my user wants to highlight the row in the select box when mouse over any row.... is there any CSS solution for the select box

is there any solution in DOJO, some body told me there is a combo box in DOJO which does exactly what i like to do an auto complete list box high lighting each row.

If Dojo is using the HTML select element, it can't do anything like that either. If they supply a home-grown DHTML widget that they are using in place of the HTML control, perhaps so. You'd have to check with Dojo.

i think you can rewrite a mock select.

1. hide the select
2. use table or div to show the options and add the id contains index.
3. onmouseover function with mock td or div.
...
