Hi Preety,
You can take up a web based project.Something in the lines of developing a website, where users can input data, which will be stored in a DB via XML format. The data can be searched, retreived and updated again using the webpage and xml. You might need to code in Java, XML, Servlets and HTML to finish this project.
I am also thinking of a project in similar lines. Let me know if you are interested, we can touchbase and discuss further.

Hi Preety,
One application i can think of is a Resume Database. Basically it is a browser based app, where users can enter their resumes, which needs to be converted into xml and ultimately stored in a RDBMS. Also, users need to be able to do searches on keywords, skillsets..etc and also need to lookup and modify their resumes.
How does this sound to you?
-Hemanth
p.s. can you give link to the xml journal article.

Hi Pretty and Hemanth,
I too am a Master's student in Illinois in Applied Computer Science and am looking for some project on XML/JSP/Servlets. The resume related project which Hemanth suggested is promising.
Another area of interest which is pursued by many are Billing and EDI automation. e.g. Standards forms like Accident Claims, HealthCare claims or Invoice etc make excellent candidate for XML representation. An application can developed to to handle such forms as XML documents.
I too would be interested to share and gain some insight into the XML technology.
Best Regards,

PS. The Claim forms which I mentioned are National Standards in the USA. Are both of you in the US ?

Hi,
You can also think of a project such as an application to find the cheapest price for an item or the cheapest mortgage or air ticket. You can use XML, Java, Javascript, XSL etc. This is a real life situation. It will not take a whole lot of time. This will help in job hunting too.
During XML learning I did this and it turned out to be very interesting and very involved also. You can have a GUI to get user input and anothey GUI to present results. You can get inputs like geographical area, price range, make etc. If you want to go that extra yard, toss in a few Java beans or use Weblogic.
Good Luck
Raj

Dear All
I think resume database + cheapest airline tickets are interesting. However do you all see that there me a problem in developing the airline application as it would be very comrehensive. it mmay require number of routes etc to serach..then how about using the info of othera irline would it be legal. I am just thinking aloud. Please comment Raj
Sameer iam in malaysia. What about you hemant & Raj
Hemant slog on to this site and use the following access code or register your self. Then search for the article.
https://www.icnfull.com/syscon/xmldevlpr.htm
Your personal access code is: XMLJ (in lowercase)
hemant if we develop the resume application the three tier architechture proposed will be good.
