I have copied xalan.jar,jaxp.jar,crimson.jar to jdk1.3\jre\lib\ext , when I compile Echo.java file which is simple sax parser program it compiles fine , but when I run
java Echo hello.xml
it gives me "NoClassDefFoundError : org.xml.sax.HandlerBase" and some other 10 lines of error , even if I set classpath to directory containg Echo.class , it gives me same error , how it is possible that it works fine when compiling but not at run time. whats the problem??
thanks

Hi Ray,
Are you using Win98? I have the same problem, the compiler works fine but the runtime can't find the .jars.
I have to use a .bat file with:

Hope that helps.

Or try restarting your machine!

Ajith ...
That doesn't work either The Win98 version acts very strange with the runtime. My WinNT machine at work, however, reacts exactly as prescribed in the documentation. Windoze is such a fun operating system.

Yeah ... I found out what's wrong!!!
The documentation says to copy the three .jar files into directory. BUT, there's another JRE path!
On my system it's in . I copied the .jars there, rebooted and can now run the samples that came with JAXP-1.1 without having to specify a classpath or use a .bat file.
Hurray (guess it wasn't Win98 that was the problem after all )
Jane
