Benefits of using DB via XML

Hi Everybody
I could not understand the need of accessing DB via XML. Infact its easier to access DB directly thru java/JSP. Can u pl. tell me the real advantage of XML when accessing DB?

Pankaj,
XML is not a tool for accessing databases. Instead, it is a way of representing your data in a simple, yet very powerful format. You will still need to use traditional ways to access the database( JDBC etc ).
Once you have retrieved the resultset, you can pass it around from one application to another in XML format.
