JDOM was submitted to Java Community Process(JCP) as a Java Specification Request(JSR) and was accepted.
According to Jason Hunter
<Quote>
Putting JDOM under the oversight of the JCP as a JSR will facilitate JDOM's corporate adoption and open the door for JDOM to be incorporated into the core Java Platform. JDOM will still be released as open source software

More information about the JSR is available at http://java.sun.com/aboutJava/communityprocess/jsr/jsr_102_jdom.html
