what does <xmp> tag means??

Usually XML tags convey semantics specific to the application. So one application may understand <xmp> in one sense, and another application may understand it complitely differently.
Exceptions are tags which belong to some popular application domains, such as XSL or JSP, which do have ceretain "meaning" and other application will unlikely "override" them with their proprietary meaning.
